Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea. It is a beautiful city, economic and scientific center, home to the oldest and most influential university in Denmark. However, there are not so many people arriving here for business purposes as there are ordinary tourists.

Northern, cool Copenhagen is especially good in summer, when all of Europe is languishing in the heat. There is everything that may interest travelers: interesting museums, beautiful castles, photogenic monuments, cozy cafes and bars, green parks for recreation and walks, and even beaches. We know exactly how to get to Copenhagen and we will tell you.

Choosing transport

The choice of public transport to Copenhagen directly depends on the starting point of your journey:

  • if you are in Russia, then the easiest way to get to the capital of Denmark is by plane;
  • if you have included Copenhagen in the route through the Scandinavian countries, then choose a train or a bus;
  • if you want to get to Copenhagen from Poland or Germany, then you will not find better transport than a ferry.

Fast and cheap

In just a few hours, you can be in Copenhagen by plane. The largest Scandinavian airport Kastrup is located 8 km from the center of Copenhagen, which receives the planes of many air carriers. The airport has three terminals, one of which is closed for renovations. You can move between the terminals on special free buses, which run quite often.

Direct flights between Moscow and Copenhagen are operated by Aeroflot twice a day. Scandinavian Airlines offers direct flights on Mondays. Flights to Copenhagen are operated from Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo airports. The average price for a one-way ticket in August-October 2017 is around 85 euros.

Tickets may not be available unless you buy them in advance. Then you should think about traveling to Denmark through some European city: Helsinki, Cologne, Riga, Tallinn, etc. The cheapest option of a flight with a transfer in Cologne will cost tourists only 90 euros.

Scandinavian Airlines fly from St. Petersburg to Copenhagen twice a week. Tickets for these flights cost approximately 160 euros.

We do not recommend choosing a train or bus for a trip to Copenhagen from Moscow or St. Petersburg, as the journey will take too long and will be difficult.

How to get to Copenhagen from the airport

Taxi drivers await guests at Copenhagen Airport at the exit from the terminals. A short taxi ride to a hotel in the city center will cost around DKK 300 (€ 40). Drivers accept not only cash, but also bank cards for payment, which is quite convenient, since it allows you not to change the currency at the airport at an unfavorable rate.

Arriving at Kastrup airport, do not rush to contact taxi drivers, as several types of public transport go to the historic city center:

  • buses no. 5a. Tickets can be purchased directly from the driver, having named the stop you need in advance, since the fare depends on the zone where you are going. The bus reaches the center in 30 minutes. The frequency of movement is 10-15 minutes;
  • trains connecting the airport with the Copenhagen railway station. You can get to the train stop through the third terminal. The train will take guests of Copenhagen to the city center in 15 minutes. Tickets must be purchased in advance from special machines in the terminal;
  • metro near the third terminal. Fast and convenient way to get to the center.

By sea

Perhaps the most romantic and scenic route to Copenhagen is along the Baltic Sea. Ferry services connect Copenhagen with selected Polish and German cities. For example, from Gdynia (station "Gdynia Stena Line") car ferries leave twice a day to the stop "Karlskrona Aspöfärjan", from where there is a train to Copenhagen. The fare is about 100 euros. You will have to spend 17-18 hours on the way. The ferries are equipped with cabins, so the journey will be very pleasant. Another advantage of sea transport is that you can carry your own car on the ferry, so that you can then travel around Scandinavia in comfort.
