Description of the attraction
Copenhagen University is the largest public educational institution in Denmark, which also has a huge teaching and research center. The university was opened on June 1, 1479 by King Christian I. The university was created according to the type of German universities. The very first faculty at Copenhagen University was theological, in 1736 a law faculty was opened, in 1788 two more faculties were founded - philosophy and medicine, in 1850 - mathematics.
The total area of buildings belonging to the university is 630 thousand square meters. More than 37,000 students study at the University of Copenhagen, of which seven hundred are students from 65 countries of the world. The teaching staff is about 8000 employees. There is a system of international exchange of students, staff, research programs. There are preparatory English courses for foreign students.
Today, the university has several faculties: social, humanitarian, theological, medical, natural science, law. The structure of the university degree is divided into three levels. The first level is a bachelor's degree, the second level is a master's degree, and the third level is a doctoral degree. The university has 64 departments and 9 research centers and laboratories. Classes for students are held in classrooms, research centers, as well as in the Botanical Garden.
The goal of the University of Copenhagen is to prepare highly qualified specialists from all over the world in all industries. The Nobel Prize winners are ten graduates of the university, including one of the famous physicists of the twentieth century, Niels Bohr.
