How to get to Sukhumi by plane

To Sukhumi by train
The railway connection between Sukhumi and other large cities of Russia is well established. Traveling by train will take longer, but you will significantly save on ticket prices. A direct train runs from Moscow to Sukhumi all year round, crossing the border with Abkhazia called Psou. Trains leave from Kazansky or Kurskiy stations. It is better to check the schedule in advance, as some flights are canceled during the low season.
From St. Petersburg, the movement of trains to Sukhumi begins only at the end of April. Train 479A departs from the Moscow railway station, makes a stop in the Russian capital and arrives in Sukhumi in 2 days. There are no direct flights from Moscow to Sukhumi. However, the capital of Abkhazia can be reached with transfers in Krasnodar. The waiting time for the next bus is from 11 to 15 hours, so you need to take this point into account when planning your trip. The total amount of time spent on the road reaches 32 hours.
Buses from St. Petersburg start their journey from the Baltic Station Square, then make a stop in Stavropol and eventually arrive in Sukhumi.
Starting a trip to Sukhumi from any other city in Russia, be guided by the fact that your route should go through Krasnodar, Gagra or Sochi. From these settlements, you can easily purchase tickets to Sukhumi on a regular bus.
By car
Motorists who want to test their strength sometimes decide to go to Abkhazia by personal transport. Such a trip will take a lot of your time and energy. On the other hand, you will have a great chance to enjoy the picturesque landscapes of the Black Sea coast.
