The Valencian region is one of the most fertile in Europe. Citrus trees and vineyards, date palms and peach orchards grow here. Historical and cultural attractions in the area are also abundant and when asked where to go from Valencia, any guide will not hesitate to name dozens of route options.
In the footsteps of medieval knights
The Valencia region is famous for its medieval architectural structures, each of which is a real example of the stone architecture of the Spaniards:
- 18 km north of Valencia stands the imposing and beautiful monastery of Real Monasterio del Pugh, built in the 13th-15th centuries. Its first floor is given over to the exposition of the Museum of Printing and Graphics, which is considered the best in Europe.
- Several medieval buildings in Castellon la Plana are already a worthy reason to visit the quiet resort town. The art museum, located in the building of the old municipality dating back to the 17th century, attracts special attention of tourists.
- Morel is called a walled city. It has preserved an impregnable 13th century castle and defensive walls, as if hovering over the city from the height of a steep hill.
Fans of ancient history will certainly be interested in the ruins of a Roman settlement in Sagunto, 24 km north of Valencia, and the old town of Segobriga of the same era, located 30 km west of Sagunto.
Kaleidoscope of discoveries
In the vicinity of Valencia, there is a huge number of interesting cities, beaches and other places for active and curious travelers. In between sunbathing on the Costa Brava, you can go, for example, to the ancient city of Peniscola, which is surrounded by an 11th century fortified wall. Peniscola was founded by the Phoenicians and its main attractions - the castle of the Knights Templar and old streets that form a quaint ligature in the old historical center.
An entrance ticket to the fortress and castle of Morella, located in the ancient city on the site of Roman fortifications, costs only a couple of euros. The architecture of the castle was influenced by its many owners. Strengthening more than once passed from hand to hand during bloody wars. Modern tourists can not only take excellent panoramic photos of Morella from the height of the castle hill, but also visit the museum within the walls of the defensive structure.
The Albufera Natural Park, 12 km south of the provincial capital, is another day-trip destination from Valencia. The lagoon is a huge freshwater reservoir where thousands of migratory birds nest. The natural park has become a habitat for 250 species of birds, the observation of which will especially appeal to young travelers.
Where to go with children from Valencia
An excellent opportunity to make your vacation rich and varied is a trip around the surroundings of the resort that you have chosen for your vacation. Children will love this plan, especially when it comes to visiting the safari park. Located 75 km from Denia, Aytana Park is home to dozens of exotic animals, which will be interesting for young tourists of any age to get to know.
It is best to use a rented car to visit the park. On it you will have to overcome a 7-kilometer circular route, during which you can get out of the car and take photos of animals.
The main characters of the safari park are llamas and donkeys, giraffes and ostriches, zebras and deer. All of them are found in their natural habitat and are not constrained by cages and corrals. You can touch elephants and goats, and talk with llamas. Predators are also present in the park, and they are the only ones whose freedom is slightly limited by the net, so as not to endanger the visitors.
The park opens at 11.00 and is open until 19.00. Guided tours are offered twice a day. The price of the issue is from 20 euros for an adult ticket.
