One of the major Chinese cities is considered a dream come true, as it is one of the most dynamically developing cities. This is especially true for the sphere of trade, economy, industry. Therefore, the first answer to the question of what to visit in Shanghai will certainly be associated with an international exhibition project, festival, presentation.
The city occupies more territory than the capital of the state or its competitor - Hong Kong. In the city, which is a separate administrative unit of China, the curious tourist will find a lot of entertainment. In addition to them, travelers will find historical sights, monuments of architecture and culture, including the chic palaces of the emperors.
What and how to visit in Shanghai?
In the list of must-see places in Shanghai, the first line will be occupied by the embankment of the river with the name not quite euphonious for the European ear - Huangpu. But this is a kind of Mecca for tourists arriving in Shanghai.
One of the options for exploring local sights is a walk along the promenade. But knowledgeable people offer a second, more interesting option - a boat trip along this river until it flows into the great Yangtze. This is how you can assess the scale of the city, its dynamics and development. During the river trip, fantastic urban landscapes will pass by, complemented by colorful Chinese bridges and junks.
Walking along the embankment, you can use the pedestrian underwater tunnel to cross to the other side. Here is Pudong, which tourists have already dubbed "Shanghai Manhattan", its main highlight is the "Oriental Pearl" (the Chinese love beautiful, poetic names) - an ordinary TV tower. Climbing on it to the clouds, you can go to an open observation deck, stunning views of the city and stunning sensations are provided to all tourists, without exception.
There is another interesting place in the TV tower, which, unlike the observation deck, is located not high - on the first floor. This is a puppet museum, but not ordinary - with the help of puppet exhibits, the history of Shanghai is told. Such an extraordinary reception makes a visit to the museum unforgettable, and the main milestones of the birth and development of the city are easy to remember.
Interesting city street
Streets, squares, squares, that is what you can visit in Shanghai on your own. Shoppers will find the almost endless Nanjing Lu, which I call the city's main shopping street. But if you walk to the end of the street (and there is one), impressions of a completely different kind are guaranteed.
Nanjing-lu rests on the People's Square, which, firstly, amazes with its gigantic size, and secondly, proudly displays its architectural masterpieces - the Shanghai Grand Theater and the museum. Both establishments are worthy of the visit of any visitor to the city, even a sophisticated visitor in such matters. For example, the expositions showcase the main museum treasures - collections of ancient bronze items, collections of ceramics or masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy, famous all over the world.
Shanghai landmarks
Naturally, it cannot be limited to one street, the same Sizhou Creek street may well compete with Nanjing-lu. Even more impressions will be given by the Old Town, a walk in the Mandarin Yu Garden or its "colleague", a garden with a longer and more beautiful name - Purple Autumn Clouds.
And in Shanghai, you can see gorgeous natural monuments, going to Mount Sheshan, the abbreviated name is She. On the one hand, travelers are expected by magnificent mountain landscapes, outlandish plants, like bamboo forests, on the other hand, on the top of the mountain, one can see monumental creations of human hands.
Mount She has turned into a universal amusement park, where you can get acquainted with the thematic zones, take a walk in the bird garden, enjoying bird trills, try out the cable car and even spend a few days in this real paradise, settling in one of the hotels.

For many tourists from Europe, it becomes a discovery that you can cross half of the planet, and at the other end of the earth meet the Basilica of the Virgin Mary, which is a kind of center for Christian pilgrims. It was built by the Jesuits, one legend is associated with it, which says that all sins will be forgiven for those Christians who visit this shrine.
The Jesuits laid the foundation for the basilica in 1863; it immediately attracted crowds of pilgrims and could not accommodate everyone. The question arose about the construction of a new building made of granite, by 1935 the basilica, built in the neo-Renaissance and neo-Gothic style, met the first pilgrims. The complex includes a bell tower, on top of which there is a sculptural composition depicting the Madonna and Child.
