Description of the attraction
The Shanghai Museum was established in 1952. It is located in People's Square in the center of Shanghai and is dedicated to the art of Ancient China. Any tourist interested in cultural recreation can visit this unique place, which houses about 120,000 important historical exhibits.
The building of the museum itself was built according to Taoist traditions. The base of the museum is made in the form of a large square, which symbolizes the earth. And on it there is a spherical dome, symbolizing the sky.
The building is divided into 4 floors inside. In total, the museum has 3 exhibition halls and 11 galleries. Each room introduces the visitor to a specific art form of ancient China.
The museum houses an impressive collection of bronze items. There are 400 such exhibits in total. This metal has always been highly prized in China. By the way, one of the three "transparent" bronze mirrors of the Ming dynasty is kept here.
The Shanghai Museum possesses an extensive collection of ceramics and tableware. Some specimens belong to the Neolithic era. In addition, the museum contains a large number of jade products, which is considered a symbol of wealth in China and has always been especially revered in this country.
The galleries display the best examples of Chinese painting and calligraphy, there is a hall with the highest quality Chinese furniture, the Shanghai collection of which is considered one of the best in the world.
