The Austrian capital is so multifaceted and self-sufficient that the question of where to go from Vienna usually arises among tourists who have already had enough time to wander through its cozy streets, visit the Opera and even taste not only the famous coffee, but also the Sachertorte chocolate cake. And yet, there are plenty of routes for one day, moreover, it is possible to move around both by car and independently by public transport.
Choosing a direction
Depending on preferences and wishes, routes from Vienna can be roughly divided into educational and practically useful:
- The Wachau Valley along the Danube River is a destination for fans of unique natural landscapes and lovers of photo shoots against the backdrop of vineyards and ancient monasteries. Fortresses and castles coexist here with villages in a pastoral style, and once in the valley in early autumn, every tourist gets the chance to enjoy young white wine.
- The town of Karlstein is located two hours away by car from the Austrian capital (not to be confused with the Czech castle Karlstein). Its main attraction is the Clock Museum, where more than 700 items are collected, the oldest of which was 450 years old at the beginning of this century. The entrance to the museum is paid. The ticket costs about 2 euros.
- Outlets in Austria, where you can buy goods from prestigious world brands at great discounts, are especially popular with the fair half of the tourist fraternity. The Süd shopping center is a 30-minute drive towards Baden, and the Pandorf Outlet is an hour's drive towards the Hungarian border.
Visit Mozart
For fans of Mozart's music, the answer to the question of where to go from Vienna sounds unambiguously - to Salzburg. Trains there leave from Westbahnhold Station, located on the orange line of the Vienna underground. If you are traveling as a couple, it is more profitable to buy tickets at the "one +" fare. For two in a class 2 carriage, they will cost about 160 euros. Travel documents are valid for two months from the date of purchase. Travel time takes from 2, 5 to 3, 5 hours, depending on the number of stops.
The information desk at Salzburg Railway Station sells special tourist cards to save money when visiting museums and using public transport.
By tram in the Vienna Woods
When choosing a route where to go from Vienna, pay attention to Baden. This city in the middle of the Vienna Woods is famous for its thermal springs and its beautiful and cozy streets and squares. Getting here from the capital is easy: just take a tram. It departs from the Bristol Hotel, located across the street from the Vienna Opera. In 40 minutes, the tram, running every quarter of an hour, will cover 25 km and take you to the Baden railway station on the central square of the city. The issue price is 6 euros. In addition to the sulfur pools at the healing springs in Baden, the Doblhoff Park with boat rental and the cottage of Emperor Franz Joseph are worthy of attention.
