The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the iconic sights of the city of Urai. The history of this temple began in the 50-60s. 20th century, when a large number of settlers arrived in the village. Despite all the prohibitions, hard work and unsettled life, people gathered together, read holy books, sang psalms and remembered the holidays.

In the 60s. here the first oil well was put into operation, and people of various professions began to gather in the deep taiga from all over the country. Believers, setting off on a long journey, took with them divine services and books of icons.

Having got acquainted with the local residents and having settled down a little, believing Christians began to gather on Sundays to honor the church holiday, to congratulate the newlyweds or to commemorate the dead. Sometimes priests came to the city to celebrate the Liturgy, baptism and funeral services.

In August 1990, the community of believers was officially registered. Priests from the Znamensky Cathedral of the city of Tyumen came to the city, services began to be held, services were performed. Divine services were held in half of the house, given to the believer Kazachkova. In November of the same year, the Council of Deputies considered the issue of starting fundraising for the construction of a church in the city of Uray. At the beginning of 1991, a place was chosen for the temple next to the future Victory Square.

A year later, the community took over the former office building of the CPPN as a prayer house, which needed major repairs. Thanks to the leaders of the city and local residents, the reconstruction and repair of the temporary building of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin was completed. In January 1993, priest Ioann Fedorovich Yurtsun was sent to serve in the church.

The project of the temple was developed by the "Archkhram" center of the Moscow Patriarchate. M. Yu. Kesler was appointed the chief architect together with the chief engineer M. S. Skipin. At the end of 2000, the temple was consecrated, bells began to shine on the belfry.

In early January 2004, the construction of the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos was completed. The first service was performed on the feast of the Nativity of Christ. In September 2003, the iconostasis was restored in the church, made with funds donated to the oil company CJSC Tursunt. In October 2005, the construction of a Sunday school began at the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos.
