The zoo first appeared on the Haifa map in 1949 as a small farm where school biology classes were held. Its creator, Pinchas Cohen, was a real enthusiast of his craft, and after a few years they started talking about the Haifa Zoo in all corners of the country.
In addition to the implementation of entertainment tasks, the park also serves educational purposes - the Museum of Prehistoric Times has been created on its territory, where you can see exhibits from the archaeological excavations on Mount Carmel. For those interested in biology, a tour of the botanical garden at the zoo will also be fascinating.
After Louis Ariel Goldschmidt
The name of the zoo in Haifa is known to every resident of the city. The young boy Louis Ariel Goldschmidt was no different - he graduated from school, was fond of photography, dreamed of becoming a good doctor or teacher. His life was cut short by a car accident, but the city retained his memory in the name of the park, where you can come with the whole family and see from the height of Mount Carmel how beautiful Haifa is.
Pride and achievement
A full member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the park named after Louis Ariel Goldschmidt has become today a cozy home for 350 animals, which scientists attribute to hundreds of biological species. In addition to camels, fennec foxes, cobras, vultures and Persian deer, familiar to Israeli residents, white Bengal tigers and wild leopards, Capuchin monkeys and Amazonian anacondas settled in the zoo. Peacocks and pheasants walk freely along the paths of the park, and lemurs participate in a daily show, during which small visitors are allowed into their enclosures.
The contact mini-zoo in the Haifa park invites you to mingle with a sika deer, and at night there are often night safaris, when you can observe animals that are especially active at night.
