The landscape features of the country are especially favorable for the development of an extensive river system. Most of the rivers in Sweden make their way through narrow valleys. In addition, the currents very often break off with gorgeous waterfalls.

Viskan river

The river bed runs through the southern part of Sweden. The total length of the river channel is 142 kilometers. The source of Viskan is the waters of Lake Tolkevan, located on the territory of the Vastra Gotaland county. The current also runs along the Halland Lena, where the mouth of the river, the Kattegat Strait, is located. The largest city on the banks of the Viscan is Boros.

Gyota-Elv river

Geographically, the channel is located in the southern part of the country. The river is very small - only 95 kilometers. The source of the river is Lake Venern. Then Göta Elv crosses the country in a southwest direction and ends in the waters of Kattegat Bay. The upper course is mountainous and abounds in waterfalls and rapids. But in the lower part, the river is navigable.

Dalelven river

Dalelven is geographically located in the central part of the country and runs along the following fiefs: Dalarn; Gavleborg; Uppsala; Vestmanland (natural border of the territory). It flows into the waters of the Gulf of Bothnia (Baltic Sea).

Dalelven is formed by the confluence of two rivers: Österdalelven and Westerdalelven (the confluence is located near the village of Juros). The total length of the river channel is 220 kilometers.

Yide-Elv river

It is a river that originates in Lake Gransjon and flows into the waters of the Gulf of Bothnia. The total length of the river is 225 kilometers. The course of the river forms as many as ten waterfalls. And the highest one falls from a 25-meter height.

Kalikselven river

The river runs through the Norrbotten county. Kalikselven is located in the northern part of Sweden, and therefore is covered with ice from November to May.

The total length of the river channel is 450 kilometers. The source of the river is in the Knebnekaise mountains. Then the river takes an easterly direction and ends its journey safely, flowing into the Gulf of Bothnia. The upper course of the river is rich in lakes and waterfalls.

Clarelven river

The source of the river is the border lake Rugen (border between Sweden and Norway). Then the river rushes to the Norwegian lake Femen, passes through it and again finds itself on the territory of Sweden. Until the early nineties of the last century, the Karelven-Göta-Elv system was used to raft timber.

Umeelven river

It is located in the central part of the country and has a length of 460 kilometers. The source of Umeelven is Lake Everuman. The river flows traditionally into the waters of the Gulf of Bothnia.

The upper course is rapids, it forms waterfalls, as well as numerous lakes. The largest left tributary, the Vindel-Elven, is only slightly inferior in length to the Umeelven (445 kilometers). The river freezes and remains under the ice between November and May. The strength of the Umeelven current is used by several hydroelectric power plants.
