One of the paradise islands in the Caribbean, Barbados is a popular tourist destination in the Western Hemisphere. The East is also not far behind, and Russian travelers are increasingly stepping off the ladder at the Barbados International Airport. There is no direct flight to the island from Moscow and other Russian cities, but it is quite comfortable to fly here by European air carriers - the British via London or the Germans via Frankfurt. If you have a US transit visa, it makes sense to consider travel options through New York or Miami. The travel time, depending on the duration of the docking, will be at least 15-16 hours.

Barbados International Airport

The only airport on the island is named after the first prime minister of the state, Grantley Adams. The city where the airport is located is called Bridgetown and it is the capital of the country. Passenger terminals are only 14 km away from the city center, which can be easily reached by taxi. Public transport transfers are available from 6 a.m. to midnight; buses leave in the direction of the capital from the arrivals hall every half an hour.

The structure of the Barbados airport is two passenger terminals, which are a single building. The new section contains gates 1 through 10, and the old terminal contains gates 11 through 13.

The infrastructure of the airport is quite diverse and passengers can use the services of duty-free shops, cafes, currency exchange offices. Waiting for your flight is convenient in the open air area, and the most curious travelers enjoy visiting the airport museum dedicated to the history of the Concorde aircraft.

In 2010, Airports Council International awarded the Barbados the title of one of the best passenger facilities in the region. The airport in Bridgetown was second only to the air harbors of Cancun and Ecuador City.

Airlines and flights

Among the air carriers, whose planes are frequent guests of the Barbados airport:

  • Air Berlin, which carries passengers from Munich and Dusseldorf during the tourist season.
  • Air Canada, flying from Montreal and Toronto.
  • American Airlines from Miami, US Airways from Charlotte, Delta from Atlanta and JetBlue Airways from New York and Boston in season.
  • British Airways and Virgin Atlantic transporting tourists to London and Manchester.
  • Condor, which takes care of passengers from Frankfurt.

In addition, from Barbados airport you can fly by LIAT aircraft to Antigua, to Saint Vincent and Saint Martin and by Caribbean Airlines to all nearby countries in the region. The South American direction is presented in the schedule with regular flights to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
