Belgium is an interesting and unique country that does not have large flows of tourists. Most often, the cities of this country are visited during the guided tour of the Benelux (this includes the cities of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg). However, do not assume that Belgium does not deserve attention at all, quite the opposite! Belgium is a fairly successful country with many well-preserved architectural monuments, interesting castles, luxury hotels and a high standard of living. In addition, the country is visited by tourists with specific goals: lovers of chocolate or beer, as well as tourists who want to buy high-quality diamonds at a bargain price.
Brussels
Brussels is the capital of Belgium. In fact, what most people consider to be Brussels is the 19 city-communes that together form the metropolitan region. But hereinafter we will mean the capital region by Brussels. In addition to the fact that Brussels is the capital of Belgium, it is also considered the main city of the European Union. The city is also home to the NATO headquarters and the Benelux administration. As for memorable places, their number is not inferior to many capital cities of Europe. The main attraction of the city is undoubtedly the central square "Grand Place" - the most beautiful square in Europe. Not far from this square, there is an equally popular attraction - the statue of a peeing boy. Not so long ago, in 1987, a pissing boy had a girlfriend - a statue of a pissing girl. The last thing that I would like to highlight in Brussels is the Mini Europe park, where you can see many of the great buildings of Europe, there are more than 300 of them, on a scale of 1:25.
Bruges
Bruges is an incredibly calm city with a very large number of museums and churches. The city reached its peak in the 15th century, at that time it was considered the center of trade, thanks to which it developed. After the river became shallow, Bruges lost its status and stopped developing. Tourist interest in the city appeared with the advent of fashion for medieval romance; it was from that moment that Bruges began to gain its former popularity. At the beginning of the article, it was already said that many tourists go to Belgium for the sake of chocolate; about 100 years ago, pralines were invented in Bruges. Of course, special attention should be paid to the chocolate museum, as well as the autumn festival "Choc in Brugge", where chocolate sculptures are made and chocolate fountains are launched.
