Transport in Germany ranks first in Europe in terms of development level: small towns have a well-established bus service, and large settlements have various types of public transport (ground, underground).
Types of urban transport in Germany
Urban transport in the country is represented by:
- Tourist buses: getting on such a bus, you can see interesting sights of cities located in different areas.
- By trams: Tram service is very well developed in settlements in the eastern part of the country and in Bavaria, and in some cities trams even run underground (as a rule, the interval between runs is 20-25 minutes).
- By city buses: bus stops are marked with a green “H”, and some of them have displays that indicate the time of arrival of buses in online mode. In some cities, buses run at night, which is very attractive for tourists who like to get to know the cities at night.
- Metro: Major cities such as Munich and Berlin have their own underground metro lines (a “U” sign will indicate that there is a subway entrance here). As a rule, the metro operates from 04:00 to 24:00. It should be noted that there are no uniform tariffs for public transport in the country: the price depends on the distance and the number of crossed zones. Since one-time passes are more expensive, it is more profitable to purchase tickets that are valid for several days.

Taxi
You can take a taxi at a specialized parking lot or by ordering it by phone at a taxi company or by street “taxiphons” (they are installed in crowded places). If desired, taxis (all of them are equipped with meters) can be caught on the street - free taxi drivers are legally obliged to take passengers who travel within their tariff zone.
Car rental
To rent you will need an international driver's license and a credit card. In addition, you must be over 21 years of age.
You can rent a car from the national operator Duchbinger or from international companies such as Europcar, Avis, National. It should be borne in mind that you should drive in the right lane, and overtake - on the left.
Bike rent
You can rent a bike from one of the many companies (in addition to paying for the rental, you will be charged a deposit), and a free map with reflected bike routes can be obtained by visiting the tourist offices (bike paths are marked with red bricks).
