The holiday season in Greece can last all year long - it all depends on your goals and mood (you can choose the ideal time of the year for each type of holiday).
The most unfavorable month for visiting the country is November, when heavy rains are constantly pouring. The Greek summer is characterized by dry and hot weather, while the winter is characterized by rainy and warm weather. But it is worth noting that in the northern and central regions it is generally colder (there are freezing temperatures in winter) than in the southern ones.
Features of rest in Greek resorts by seasons
- Spring and Autumn: Spring, September-October are ideal times for sightseeing - temples, pantheons, basilicas, churches, acropolis, monasteries and other monuments.
- Winter and early spring: December-April is an ideal time to relax in ski resorts. There are about 20 ski centers in Greece (the cost of ski-pass is 20-25 euros / day + 15 euros - rental of ski equipment), but Kelaria and Fterolaka (they are located on Parnassus) are very popular. Winter will delight shoppers too - within 6 weeks you will be able to purchase quality items at great discounts.
- Summer: This time of year is perfect for a seaside holiday. The hottest month is July (in the central regions the air temperature can exceed +42 degrees).
Beach season in Greece
The most favorable time for swimming is late May - early June and September - at this time there is no extreme heat, and the sea is warm. If your vacation falls in the middle of summer, then it is advisable to go to islands such as Crete and Rhodes (here it is not as stuffy and hot as on the rest of the Greek coast).
Autumn in Greece is a velvet season: September and October will delight you with warm weather, pleasant sea, an abundance of fruits and fewer tourists. As for October, this month is characterized by rains (they are not very long), so for rest it is worth giving preference to the southern islands - Crete, Patmos, Rhodes.
Greek resorts have mostly sandy beaches, although sometimes combined (sand + small pebbles) are found. As a rule, the entrance to the sea is shallow, which is especially appreciated by married couples who come here on vacation with children.
Diving
The diving season in Greece coincides with the beach season - here is a real paradise for explorers and underwater archaeologists, because here you can see sunken objects from different eras, as well as fantastic underwater landscapes formed by lava. Popular dive regions are the Ionian Sea, including Corfu, Crete, Alonissos and Zakynthos marine national parks, Aegean Islands (Thassos, Lesvos, Samos).
On vacation in Greece, you can enjoy the mild climate, stunning nature, island resorts, an extensive excursion program.
