Half a dozen airports in Haiti accept airplanes and international flights, and local aviation, which, in the absence of roads in the country, serves as the only way of communication between its remote areas. There are no direct flights between Moscow and Haiti, but you can get to the capital of the country, Port-au-Prince, with transfers in Havana, Montreal, Miami, Atlanta, Panama City or on the Caribbean islands of Aruba and Curacao. In any case, the flight time, excluding connections, will be at least 14 hours.

Haiti International Airports

Only two air gates of the country have been granted international status. The cities in which the international airports of Haiti are located are Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien. The rest serve only domestic flights and accept small planes.

Metropolitan direction

The airport in the capital is called Toussaint Louverture and its history begins in the 40s of the last century, when a runway was built on the Bowen field for the needs of military and civil aviation. The last renovation of the terminal and field was undertaken in 2012 after the devastating 2010 earthquake.

The two-story terminal at Haiti's capital airport does not boast particularly modern infrastructure, but while waiting for a flight, you can eat in a cafe, exchange currency and buy souvenirs at the duty-free shops located on the second floor. The boarding gates and check-in counters are located on the first.

The transfer from the airport to the capital is carried out by buses of the N1 route or taxi, whose parking is located next to the terminal.

Tourism in Haiti is not a very popular destination, but on the airfield you can see the aircraft of famous airlines in the Western Hemisphere:

  • Air Canada operates regular flights to Montreal.
  • The Aero Carribean flies to Santiago de Cuba.
  • American Airlines connects Haiti Airport with New York and Miami.
  • Copa Airlines delivers passengers to Panama.
  • Delta Air Lines arrives from Atlanta.

Several smaller airlines provide international flights between Haiti and other countries in the Caribbean.

From colonial times

The city where Haiti's second international airport is located was once called the Paris of the Antilles. The luxury of the colonial buildings of Cap-Haitien still amazes those who step down the ladder in this air port of the country.

The airport is named after Hugo Chavez and connects Cap Haitien with the United States, the British overseas Turks and Caicos and the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince. Air Turks and Caicous, American Airlines, IBC Airways and Salsa d'Haiti fly to Hugo Chavez International Airport.

Alternate airports

You can get to the remote corners of the country on the wings of the local aviation. Haiti's airports Jacmel, Jérémie, Le Quays, Port de Pays, Bellader, Hainche and Pignon are used by missionaries, doctors and humanitarian workers who are helping a country in one of the world's least prosperous countries.
