The airport in Izhevsk is the only air hub in Udmurtia connecting the republic by air with the cities of Russia.
The airline is located 12 km from Izhevsk in the direction of its southeastern part, and serves only Russian air carriers. The main air carrier of the enterprise is the Izhavia company.
At the moment, the airport does not have an "international" status. Despite the fact that the construction of its new international terminal began in 1996, it has not yet been completed. And the technical capabilities of the airport are limited by the fact that its runway cannot accommodate all types of aircraft.
History
The first airfield in Izhevsk was built in 1934 in the vicinity of the village of Pirogovo (now this airfield is part of the DOSAAF structure of the Izhevsk Aero Club) from where mail and passenger air transportation was carried out.
During the Second World War, a new airfield was founded, which was used as a transit route for sending military fighters "Boston" and "Airacobra" to the front. On the basis of a military airfield, just before the end of the war, a civilian airport was founded.
In 1974, in the area of the village of Staroye Maryanovo (the current location of the airport), a new, third in a row, Izhevsk airline was created, serving modern aircraft of the type YAK-42, TU-134, AN-26.
Currently, with the financial support of the government of Udmurtia, the airport is being reconstructed. And by 2015 it is planned to launch a new, international terminal with a well-functioning infrastructure and a border control point.
Service and services
The Izhevsk airport has a rather limited range of services. There is only the most necessary for serving passengers while waiting for the next flight.
There is a hotel not far from the airport. There is a waiting room in the right wing of the terminal. There is a mother and child room, a small cafe, a Rospechat kiosk. Round-the-clock security of the airport is organized. Free parking is provided in front of the terminal building.
Transport
From the airport in Izhevsk to the city, you can take a regular bus # 331, following through the central streets of the city, or use a taxi.
