Description of the attraction
Francavilla a Mare is a small resort town in the vicinity of Pescara, whose roots go back to prehistoric times. Like many other settlements on the Adriatic coast, Francavilla is a fairly popular tourist resort, and the city has this fame since the 19th century.
In addition to excellent beaches, Francavilla a Mare boasts numerous attractions, among which the old medieval city center deserves special attention. The Town Hall houses a rich collection of paintings by the famous 19th century painter Michetti. Of the religious buildings in Francavilla, it is worth highlighting the churches of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Giovanni. The first also displays a number of priceless works of art, such as the magnificent silver monstrance made by Nicola da Guardiagrele.
Since Francavilla a Mare has been a popular holiday destination for the past two centuries, it is not surprising that there are a number of hotels and inns of all levels. Among the best hotels are Corallo and Claila. The first is located right on a wonderful beach with picturesque hills in the background. The local restaurant serves excellent meat and fish dishes. The Claila Hotel was built in the 19th century and was declared a national monument in 1990. The hotel building was recently renovated and today it meets all modern standards.
