The date of formation of the Ivanovo Regional Puppet Theater was February 8, 1935. Ekaterina Pirogova became its founder - she was a graduate of the very first All-Union puppet instructor courses conducted under the direction of Sergei Obraztsov. After some time, the creative staff of the theater began to form, which was originally a branch of the famous Youth Theater. In 1940, the puppet theater acquired complete independence.

Pashkov, after all, it was this person who advocated the opening of a poetic theater, while paying great attention to working on stage speech and image. In the 1970s, M. I. From 1980 to 1995, the puppet theater was headed by E. G. Demirov is an honored art worker of Russia, whose name is associated with the emergence of previously non-existent repertoire and artistic trends, starting from the musicals "Teremok" and "The Mysterious Hippopotamus" and ending with folk performances "The Hunter to Fairy Tales", "The Hero of the Russian Land". During this period, a children's studio operated in the theater, which showed itself in the performances "Mukha-Tsokotukha", "Moidodyr" and others, in which young artists performed together with adult actors.

Since 1996, E. E. Ivanova - Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. From that moment on, performances began to appear in the theater, intended for spectators of a wide variety of ages, ranging from the smallest ("Fairy Tale-Mystery", "Ladushki-Ladushki") and ending with an adult spectator ("Playing Knights", "Tales of the Brothers Grimm") … Ivanova at one time was a popular stage director, known in the theaters of Orenburg, Vologda, Krasnodar, Stavropol, Moscow, Simferopol, in which all her performances were held with great success.

Particularly successful in her work was the organization and further holding of the famous International Theater Puppet Festival "Anthill", which has been held once every two years, since 1995. Theaters of Ukraine, Belarus, Moscow, Yaroslavl, St. Petersburg, Ufa, Orenburg, Kursk, Murmansk and some other cities became guests and participants of this festival.

There were fourteen actors in the theater troupe of the Ivanovo Theater, and five of them were Honored Artists of the Russian Federation, as well as graduates of the Theater Institute in Yaroslavl and the Academy of Arts of St. Petersburg.

In the middle of 2008, on the basis of the Ivanovo school, a course was formed for a specialty called "Real Actor Puppet Theater". The teachers of stage speech and acting are Honored Artists of the Russian Federation: V. V. Kuznetsov, E. E. Ivanov and B. B. Novikov.

The Ivanovo Regional Puppet Theater took an active part in the International Open Festivals in the cities of India - Bombay, Delhi, Poland - Lomza, Warsaw, Lodz, Austria - Mistelbach, Vienna, Belarus - Minsk, Brest, Germany - Munich, Hanover, as well as Russian cities - Kurgan, Orenburg, Kineshma, Moscow, Ryazan.

To date, the director of the theater is Sergey Valerievich Shebanov, who began his creative activity in the park of recreation and culture. Stepanov. It was this person who was noted for his conscientious work and active work with various thanks from the Department of Culture of the Ivanovo region, as well as from the head of Ivanov and the regional Duma, including the governor himself. In 2011, Sergei Valerievich was awarded an honorary title for his personal contribution to the cultural heritage and art of the city of Ivanovo.

In addition, famous actors work in the puppet theater: Terentyeva Tatiana, Artemiev Artem, Kostrova Elena, Krestov Gennady, Golubeva Ksenia, Vdovin Dmitry, Oneil Angelica, Pavlova Vera and honored artists of the Russian Federation - Klevtsovskaya Tamara, Serditov Alexander, Novikov Boris, Kuznetsov Vladimir, Ivanova Elena.
