One of the most picturesque sights of the city of Alma-Ata is located at an altitude of 1691 meters above sea level - this is the high-mountain ice complex "Medeu".
The history of the complex goes back to 1920, when the order was given to create the first resort zones in the Medeo tract. The name stuck to this place and is preserved to this day. In 1970, it was decided to build a sports complex with artificial ice in this place. The complex hosts many sporting events and competitions.
Now "Medeu" is one of the largest sports complexes with an artificial ice field of 10, 5 thousand square meters. m. Pure mountain water, which is used for pouring ice, contributes to the achievement of world records: for all the time here in speed skating more than two hundred records have been set at all distances, for men and women. That is why this ice rink is called the “factory of records”.
After reconstruction in the 2000s, the complex has become more convenient for visitors.
