Description of the attraction
Campitello di Fassa is another charming town located in the Italian ski resort of Val di Fassa in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. By the way, this is one of the oldest local resorts. Its name comes from the Latin word "campus" - field, plain, since the town itself really lies on a flat area. And above it rise the formidable peaks of Col Rodella and Val Duron, which attract lovers of alpine skiing and snowboarding here. The best way to get to Campitello is by train from Bolzano or Trento.
The first inhabitants of Campitello appeared here in prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages, the entire Val di Fassa valley belonged to the bishops of Bressanone, who established their residence here in the 15th century. This subordination was canceled only in the 19th century, when Val di Fassa was annexed to Tyrol, and then, after the First World War, became part of Italy.
Campitello lies at an altitude of 1448 meters above sea level and consists of two ski areas - Campitello di Fassa - Col Rodella and Campitello di Fassa - Sella Pass. The first one starts right on the territory of the town and goes towards the Gruppo del Sassolungo with a height of more than 3 thousand meters. There are 8 ski lifts and about 13 km of red slopes. Here, between the Grochmann and Salei peaks, there is a snow park with excellent trails for boarder-ross. The second ski area - Sella Pass - is located at an altitude of 2244 meters above sea level between the massifs of Gruppo del Sassolungo and Torri del Sella. There is only one blue track and one red track in this area, but from here you can get to the Canazei Belvedere area and Sella Ronda.
Other activities in Campitello include the Ischia Sports Center, where you can play tennis, volleyball, basketball and football, as well as mini golf and billiards. There is a rollerdrome and a training wall for climbers. In summer, tourists can enjoy horseback riding and hiking in the surrounding area, cycling and rafting on local rivers. Local attractions include the Church of Saints Giacomo and Filippo, the first mention of which is found in the documents of 1245. The church received its present appearance in the 16th century, and the bell tower even later - in the middle of the 19th century, after the old one was destroyed by a lightning strike.
