Description of the attraction
The Roman baths of the city of Varna are one of the most valuable cultural monuments of the city. You can find them at the intersection of Han Krum and San Stefano Streets. In 1968 they were declared an architectural and construction monument of national culture.
The public baths (antique baths) of Odessos are the best-preserved monument of Roman culture in Bulgaria and today are the object of the Varna Archaeological Museum. These baths, measuring 7000 sq. meters, - the largest in the entire territory of the Balkan Peninsula and the fourth largest in the whole of Europe. They were built at the end of the 2nd century and were used until the end of the 3rd century.
The baths include the western and eastern lobbies, changing rooms, meeting and sports rooms, separate hot, warm and cold shower rooms, a boiler room, toilets and many other facilities. The construction of the term uses an interesting heating system, in which warm air is supplied to the roof of the building through the cavities located under the floor.
Visitors wishing to get acquainted with this architectural monument in more detail can order the services of a guide (for this, you must first contact the staff of the Archaeological Museum) or purchase guidebooks in the trade pavilion located near the entrance to the baths.
