Description of the attraction

World renowned writer Ernest Hemingway spent the last two decades of his life in Cuba. His third wife Martha Gellhorn persuaded him to buy a small house on the seashore. This is how the “Farm with a sea view” was bought, or in another way, Finka Vikhia Manor. It was chosen taking into account its proximity to the writer's favorite bars “Bodeguita del Medio and“El Floridita”in the area of San Francisco de Paula. There were many advantages: a magnificent view of the endless sea surface, an amazing coastline, quiet fishing, majestic sunrises and sunsets. All this, subsequently, played a large role in the work of Hemingway, who wrote the world-famous story "The Old Man and the Sea".

As a museum, the house opened its doors in 1962. Everything here remained untouched, as under the previous owners. The rooms contain a large number of African hunting trophies, images of the bullfight, beloved by the writer. But what is most impressive is the abundance of books. The house resembles a huge library, with shelves of books reaching the ceiling. Here are collected works in 33 three languages of the world. Hemingway's bedroom has his personal typewriter. He worked in the morning, standing next to her barefoot. It was here that his novels "The Holiday That Is Always With You", "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "Beyond the River, in the Shade of the Trees" were born.

Interestingly, in addition to the married couple, 70 more of their favorite pets lived in the Vikhia estate: 60 cats and 10 dogs.
