Description of the attraction
The State Museum of the History of Theater and Musical Culture of the Republic of Belarus was opened on March 23, 1990. The museum is located in the most beautiful area of the historical center of Minsk, in Muzykalny lane, building 5. The total area of the museum's expositions is 362 sq. M. m.
The building in which the museum is located was built at the beginning of the 19th century in the Baroque style. This building is known in Minsk as the House of Masons. On the plan, it has the shape of a Masonic cross. There is a legend that a Masonic lodge called the "Northern Torch" sat in this house. Unfortunately, apparently, due to the secret that hides the activities of the Freemasons, the legend has no documentary confirmation.
The House of Masons was transferred to the State Museum of the History of Theater and Musical Culture in 2011 after restoration.
Now the museum houses 10 collections: musical instruments, music manuscripts, documentary materials, photographs and photographic reproductions, posters and programs, visual materials, sound recordings, video recordings, memorial things.
Of particular interest to the public are such interesting exhibitions as "The origins of theatrical and musical culture in the Belarusian lands", where you can see the ancient national Belarusian musical instruments: zhaleiki, earwigs, accordions, rattles, bagpipes, whistles, etc. puppet Belarusian theater.
The museum constantly hosts thematic exhibitions dedicated to the Belarusian musical and theatrical art, holidays, lectures, chamber concerts, balls.
