Description of the attraction

Donetsk Music and Drama Theater began its history in 1927 in the city of Kharkov. The troupe of this newly created theater included artists from the Berezil Theater and the Kharkiv People's Theater. The head of the troupe at the initial stage was director O. Zagarov. But a year later, V. Vasilko became its head. This Ukrainian worker carried out cultural and educational activities in eastern Ukraine.

In 1930 the theater toured Moscow as part of the All-Union Olympiad of Arts. And in 1933, the People's Commissariat of Education of Ukraine decided to transfer this creative team to the city of Donetsk, which at that time was called Stalino. There, in November 1933, the troupe opened its first season with the drama “Bastille of the Mother of God” by I. Mikitenko. After a while, this theater became the best in Donbass and one of the best throughout Ukraine. This was facilitated by the original and varied repertoire and the rather high general culture of this group.

During the first years of its existence, namely in the first 10 years, the creative troupe of the theater visited all the big cities of Donbass, as well as Baku, Rostov-on-Don, Leningrad, Gorky, Kiev. But the beginning of the Great Patriotic War forced to interrupt the creative activity of the theater. Many of the actors went to the front, while the rest were evacuated to Kyzyl-Orda.

After the Donbass was liberated, in January 1944 the troupe returned to Stalino. And at this time, the full composition of the troupe was formed in the Stalin State Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater named after Artyom. And the last 30 years for this theater have been times of creative ups and downs and the implementation of new methods in the creative and administrative leadership.
