Until December 31, 2014, Bad Gams was an independent trade fair village in Styria, in the Deutschlandsberg district. On January 1, 2015, Bad Gams was merged with the neighboring towns of Freeland, Kloster, Trachütten, Osterwitz and the city of Deutschlandsberg. From now on, all these villages are districts of Deutschlandsberg.
Bad Gams is located in the hills of West Styria in a very beautiful, scenic area suitable for hiking. Near the town you can find a large artificial lake, which is adjoined by meadows and fields with numerous fruit trees. The mild climate is conducive to large yields of chestnuts and pumpkins.

Bad Gams was recognized as a thermal spa in 1982. The springs were discovered a little earlier - in the middle of the 20th century.
Besides mineral springs, Bad Gams is famous for its vineyards. Wine is produced by about 12 winemakers living in Bad Gams and its surroundings.
Outside the town, there are several interesting places to visit while walking. These include the small chapel of Joslannerl, whose outer walls are decorated with frescoes illustrating the Way of the Cross of Jesus Christ; a former stockyard building that has been converted into a dormitory for workers at a local paper mill; ruins of the Deutschlandsberg castle, which was first mentioned in 1153.
