Description of the attraction
The house-museum of Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev, a famous Russian artist, born in Astrakhan, was opened in the spring of 2002. It is located in a small mansion, in which at the end of the century some members of the Kustodiev family lived.
The House-Museum contains authentic things that belonged to the artist - a palette, a sketchbook, brushes, documents telling about the Kustodiev family, photographs of old Astrakhan and many other items that create the atmosphere of Astrakhan at the beginning of the 20th century.
Most of the exposition is given, of course, to the works of the master, and although the Astrakhan collection of Kustodiev's works is not very large, it includes both pictorial and graphic works, sketches of theatrical scenery, book illustration, sculpture and examples of applied art reflecting his diverse artistic searches … One room is dedicated to the work of P. A. Vlasov, the first teacher of the artist - a graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Painting.

house of the Kustodievs the Kustodiev family never lived in this house. In the courtyard there used to be an outbuilding in which Boris's godmother, Alexander Shaverdov, lived. For some time after the fire in the outbuilding, which was filmed by the Kustodievs, her mother and one of the artist's sisters lived with her.
