Description of the attraction

The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Sign" is located in the village of Krasnye Gory. Earlier, at the Krasnogorsk churchyard, there was a church in honor of the great martyr Demetrius. But over time, it fell into disrepair. And with the blessing of the Metropolitan of Veliko-Novgorod and St. Petersburg, a wooden Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos was built instead of the dilapidated Demetrius Church. The church was built with funds and under the patronage of the landowner Semyon Skobeltsyn. Its consecration took place on September 22, 1789. The church in the possession had manor, arable, hayfields, forest lands. Its parish included Krasnye Gory, Drag, Zaozerye, Ham, Sitenka and others.

The Proverbs of the Church of the Sign consisted of a priest, a sexton and a sexton. Among the former priests, E. Avtonomov, Vasily Belsky, Ioann Shcheglov, who was transferred in 1863 to Toroshkovichi, Moky Shugozersky, in 1854 transferred to Vsheli, are known; Grigory Gulyaev, who died in 1863; Ioann Kitaev, who retired in 1870; Feodor Petrov, transferred to the village of Verkhutino; Alexei Medvedsky, who retired in 1883. Proverbs, before the introduction of the states, was supported by another, land, payment for services.

In 1910, an insurance valuation of the temple was made. At that time, the Church of the Sign was a wooden building on a stone foundation, sheathed with planks on the outside and painted with oil paint, inside the church was plastered. The roof is covered with iron and painted with green oil paint. The length of the church together with the bell tower was 11 sazhens, at the widest point the width was 3 sazhens, the height to the upper part of the cornice was 2 sazhens, the church had one large dome and two small ones. The church was heated by two round iron stoves. The bell tower had a height of 6 fathoms 1 arshin.

In 1905, a parish school was opened at the Church of the Sign. Zemsky school with a shelter for students from distant places. The architect was A. N. Pomerantsev.

At the end of the 19th century, Vladimir Tikhomirov Sr. served in the church. From 1913 to 1936, his son, Vladimir, continued his service, who was repressed in 1937, and on April 4, 1938, was shot in Biysk. The church was closed; the main dome and bell tower were destroyed; church utensils and icons were destroyed.

In the pre-war period and after the end of the war, the church building was used as a school building, and during the occupation as a barracks for German soldiers. When the school was closed, the building housed the chiefs of the state farm, then it was empty and destroyed until 2004.

On May 25, 2004, in the presence of Archpriest Father Nicholas, dean of the Luga region, an initiative group consisting of residents of nearby villages decided to create an Orthodox community in Krasnye Gory and restore an Orthodox parish and church. In the summer of 2004, the building was put on a new foundation, beams were cut into the floor, and a new foundation was made under the bell tower. The parishioners of the temple helped with the material for the construction of the octagon. By the fall, an octagon and a tent under the dome of the church were erected. The parishioners were engaged in garbage removal and clearing of the territory; participated in the laying of rough floors; preparing the temple for winter.

In the spring of 2006, the restoration of the bell tower began. In the fall, the bell tower was erected under the mast of the dome. The building was supplied with electricity. In the summer of 2008, the altar of the temple was repaired, in 2009 the dome was restored, a cross was installed, and roofing work was done.

On December 10, 2004, on the feast of the Icon of the Mother of God "The Sign", Archpriest Father Nikolai held a service on the street, which was attended by parishioners from all the surrounding villages. In 2005, services were already held in the church. For the first time since 1937, a procession of the cross took place around the Church of the Sign. Since summer 2006, services have been held monthly. The image of Dmitry Solunsky was donated to the temple.
