Description of the attraction

Part of the Victoria Museum, the Melbourne Museum is located in Carlton Gardens, near the Royal Exhibition Center. It is the largest museum in the southern hemisphere with 7 main galleries, the Children's Gallery (for children ages 3 to 8) and an exhibition hall for temporary exhibitions. In this room were exhibited Egyptian mummies and dinosaur skeletons from China. In addition, the museum operates the Sidney Meier Amphitheater and the Discovery Center, a public research center. In the cinema "IMAX", located on one of the floors of the museum, documentaries are shown in 3D format. The building that houses the museum today was opened in 2000.

One of the permanent exhibitions of the museum is Science and Life, in which you can see the skeleton of a diprotodon, a giant ancient ancestor of the wombat, and some dinosaurs. In 2010, the 600 Million Years of Victoria History opened, which also displays the skeletons of a variety of prehistoric creatures.

In the Melbourne Gallery, you can get acquainted with the history of Melbourne, from the second quarter of the 19th century to the present day, and learn the history of the legendary horse Far Lap.

The exhibits of the Mind and Body gallery tell about the human body. By the way, this is the world's first exposition dedicated to the human mind. And the Evolution Gallery hosted the exhibition "From Darwin to DNA". The museum also allows you to get acquainted with the wildlife of the state of Victoria - amazing animals, forest ecosystems and marine fauna. The Banjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Center presents the history of the indigenous peoples of Victoria.
