Description of the attraction
Mount Khustup is the highest peak of the Khustup-Katari ridge. It is located in the South Caucasus, in the southern part of the Republic of Armenia, in the Syunik region, south of the city of Kapan. The Vachagan River flows near the mountain. The height of Khustup peak is more than 3205 m. It gained its fame also due to the fact that the great Armenian commander Garegin Nzhdeh fought in its vicinity.
Like any country, Armenia also has its heroes, those people who, throughout a long and very difficult history, played an important role in saving their homeland and people. Garegin Nzhdeh became one of such outstanding personalities. The Armenian commander was born in 1886. He died in 1955. Garegin Nzhdeh was buried at the foot of this mountain.
The commander was not only a prominent military man, but also a good political and statesman. He left a noticeable mark on the history of the country. Garegin Nzhdeh was a participant and winner of many battles and received recognition not only from his compatriots. The military leader was tough enough to external and internal opponents. It is thanks to this that Syunik-Zangezur is now a part of the Republic of Armenia.
