Description of the attraction
Devil's Rock is a cave-rock monument located in the vicinity of the city of Lviv, namely, near the village of Lisynichi. This place was discovered relatively recently (in 1994), and became widely known among archaeologists and speleologists. This is the highest point in the vicinity of Lviv (located at an altitude of 414 meters above sea level), which is located on the territory of a biosphere-landscape reserve.
Once upon a time there was an old quarry on this site, and during its excavations, deposits of 5 lithological horizons were discovered. Remnants of materials from the Early Iron Age to the Paleolithic ancient layer have been found in these ancient deposits. Here, both traces of human activity (the remains of dishes, weapons, etc.) and the remains of an ancient woolly mammoth, wild horse, pika, deer and many others were found.
For residents of the village and Lviv, the tract is a favorite resting place. Initially, the rocks were called Chatovye, not Devil's. And they were called that because it was in this place that the Cossacks were on duty (chatted), who were the defenders of these places. And about why the name turned into Devil's Rocks, there is a separate legend. So, according to him, once upon a time the black forces decided to destroy the Cathedral of St. Yura, which is located in Lviv. For this, many devils were sent to the rocks of Dovbush for large stones. But in the morning, when the first roosters marked the dawn with their cry, the devils' power dried up, and they dropped stones between Vinniki and Lisinichi, where they lie to our time.
These rocks were visited by many poets and artists, whom they made an indelible impression and inspired new masterpieces. You can also often find paleontologists, historians and ethnographers. But recently, this place has been mainly visited by tourists from all over Ukraine, and local residents who like to relax here.
