Description of the attraction

The mountains are rarely characterized by increased cross-country ability, often the transition from one gorge to another is not just difficult, but practically impossible. One of these places was the crossing near the village of Andermatt. People have tried more than once to build a bridge across the gorge, but their efforts were unsuccessful, the building collapsed without being completed.

According to legend, one of the builders, watching another collapse of hard work, exclaimed: "If anyone is able to build a bridge here, it is devil!" Out of nowhere, before him stood none other than the devil himself. He came not just like that, but to conclude a deal, according to which he will build a bridge, but for this people must give him the soul of the one who will cross that bridge first.

The devil kept his promise, but people decided to outwit the horned one and let the old goat go first across the bridge, shouting: "Here it is your soul, take it and do with it what you want." The angry devil tore the goat, in a fit of anger pulled out a piece of rock and threw it into the bridge, but missed. From now on, both the bridge and the huge stone lying near it began to be called "devilish".

Currently, the structure is represented by a structure of three crossing bridges. The construction of the second and third bridges took place in 1815 and 1958, respectively.

In 1973, the Devil's Stone began to interfere with the construction of the Gotthard Autobahn, as a result of which a boulder weighing more than 2,000 tons was moved 127 meters. Popular rumor claims that it was this event that caused numerous accidents that occurred at this place over the following years. You can't joke with the devil, and also remind him of these jokes.
