Description of the attraction
Aarhus, the cultural capital of Jutland, is renowned for its beautiful historical sites. There are many unique museums in the central part of the city, one of them is the Women's Museum.
The building that houses the museum today was built in 1857. From 1941 to 1984, the building was occupied by the police, and only in the fall of 1984 an exposition on a woman's theme was presented in the building. More than 42,000 tourists from all over the world visit the Women's Museum annually. In 1991, thanks to the local commune, the museum was restored and in the same year the museum was given national status.
In the museum, you will learn everything about Scandinavian women, starting with their way of life, way of life, traditions, ending with modern views on the life and activities of women in the history of Danish culture. The museum houses two permanent exhibitions - "The Life of Women from Prehistoric Times to the Present" and "The Childhood Story of Girls and Boys".
The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions. Recently, the work of the Norwegian artist Marit Bent Norheim was presented. Also in the building of the museum lectures, seminars are held, at which only women are allowed to speak.
The Women's Museum can be visited both in reality and virtually. The site of the virtual museum is designed in such a way that not only presents its collections for viewing, but also conducts virtual excursions for children with simple and accessible texts and photos. After all, a woman, first of all, thinks about children and their upbringing.
