Description of the attraction

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Mother of God (Holy Mother of God) is located in the city of Ruse, Bulgaria. The construction of the temple began on April 22, 1928. The task of creating a construction project was entrusted to the architect Savva Bobchev. It was decided that the new church would be called "Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary". The foundation stone was laid by Metropolitan Michael of Dorostolsk and Cherven on September 23, 1928. Construction continued until the fall of 1930, when the dome and bell tower, which are crowned with crosses of the original design by Savva Bobchev, were completed.

In 1933, a linden iconostasis was ordered from the State Art Furniture School according to a previously approved project. Most of the icons for the temple were created by Stefan Ivanov (20 icons) and Todor Yankov (14 icons). A bell weighing just under half a ton was ordered for the bell tower. The church was solemnly opened and consecrated by Metropolitan Michael of Dorostolsk and Cherven on August 28, 1934.

The building of the temple with a total area of 312 square meters is 12 meters wide and 26 meters long, the diameter of the dome is 9.5 meters.

In 2002, restoration work was carried out in the church to restore the wall paintings.
