The mountain got its present name can be said by chance. Initially, the mountain was called Govyrla (from the Hungarian Hovar, which means "snowy peak"). However, thanks to an error on the Austrian military map, instead of the old name, everyone began to use a new name - Goverla.
Hoverla is a unique nature reserve with unique flora and fauna. That is why there are several biological, geographical and research bases, an observatory and an avalanche station here.
At the foot of the mountain there is another interesting tourist attraction, namely the waterfall, which is formed by the Prut River, and whose height is 80 meters. There is a beautiful legend that connects Hoverla and the Prut River. So, according to legend, they were once a young and in love girl and boy. However, upon learning about their love, the girl's father, the Mountain King, hid his daughter, turning her into a mountain. Prut learned that in order to return his beloved, he needed to climb to the top before dawn, but did not have time. And since then, his bitter tears flow down to the foot of the mountain.
Who knows, maybe if you climb to the top a few seconds before dawn, you can see this lovely couple who have connected their hearts again.
