Description of the attraction
Mount Belalakaya is one of the main attractions and a visiting card of the resort village of Dombai, towering over the entire Dombai glade. Belalakaya is the top of the western peak of the main ridge of the Greater Caucasus, which stretches upwards for 3861 m. East of the main peak, you can see the peak of Malaya Belalakia, whose height is 3740 m.
Mountain "charming" Belalakia can be seen from almost anywhere in the Dombai environs. On the north side, it is very similar to the Matternhorn. Of particular interest is the western wall of the summit, up to 700 m long, and the strikingly beautiful thousand-meter north-eastern wall.
There are few such clearly visible and large illustrations of ancient geological activity in the world: on Mount Belalakaya at the end of summer, large light stripes in a dark monolith of the rock are clearly visible. Millions of years ago, in the depths of the earth's interior, which has now become the Caucasus Range, a piece of molten magma penetrated into the formed strata of crystalline shales and gneisses, solidified in the form of mighty stone belts. After that, gigantic forces raised this section of the earth's crust from the depths of the bowels, thereby turning the plain into mountains. For many millions of years, surface weathering processes have destroyed huge strata of rocks, revealing for the eyes of people a section of the earth's crust, located now at an altitude of over 3 km.
Due to several layers of white quartz, up to 50 m thick, which in an unusual and beautiful way cut through the rocky walls of the peak, this mountain peak is often called the "Striped Rock".
Mount Belalakaya is one of the most beautiful peaks of the region, dominating the entire Dombai glade. She is so beautiful that even some poets have dedicated their poems and songs to her.
