Description of the attraction
The Archaeological Museum of the town of Nessebar is located near the ruins of the old city wall, on Mesembria Street. It was opened in 1994. The expositions, which feature exhibits from different eras of the development of Nessebar, are exhibited in four halls and a foyer. Here you can also see the UNESCO diploma, which confirms that the city has been considered a World Heritage Site since 1984.
The first hall of the museum contains exhibits related to Mesembria (old Nessebar) and Thrace. There are many anchors (previously the city was a very important transport hub), ancient Greek coins made of silver - tetradrachms, as well as a decree of exceptional importance associated with the name of the Thracian king Sadal.
In the second hall, the guests of the museum are invited to get acquainted with the ancient religious culture and mythology. There are religious and funerary sculptures, marble sacrificial tablets, bronze vessels and much more. In the third hall, visitors can continue their acquaintance with the history of the city, and in the fourth, they can admire the paintings (there are various icons and paintings).
The collection of the museum's exhibits is constantly replenished - after all, archaeological excavations are carried out in this ancient city almost constantly.
