Description of the attraction
Chamber Musical Opera Theater. B. A. Pokrovsky, or the Moscow State Academic Chamber Musical Theater. B. A. Pokrovsky, is one of the most popular and well-known Russian musical theaters in the world. It is located on Nikolskaya Street and is located in the building where the famous restaurant complex "Slavyansky Bazaar" was located earlier.
Pokrovsky himself tells the story of the creation of the theater in his book "My Life is a Stage". In Moscow, it was decided to reform a small opera group, touring the country with outright "hack". For this, the chief director of the Bolshoi Theater was invited - B. A. Pokrovsky. He staged a performance for the troupe. Most of the artists dropped out. A small group remained, which could only be a chamber ensemble.
At this time, the young composer Shchedrin wrote a small opera Not Only Love. This little masterpiece was rehearsed by a chamber ensemble. The performance took place on the stage of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Drama Theater. He was a great success. So in 1972 the Moscow Chamber Musical Theater was born.
When the Chamber Musical Theater was founded in 1972, it did not yet have its own premises. The performances took place on different stages. At this time, performances appeared: "Much noise because of … hearts" by Khrennikov, "Falcon Federigo degli Alberiga" by Bortyansky. In 1974 the theater finally got a permanent premises - a small basement on the "Falcon". The support of composers Shostakovich and Khrennikov played an important role in this. The troupe of the theater has increased. It was attended by young artists, graduates of GITIS., Former students of the course of acting, which was led by BA Pokrovsky. In 1974, the theater hosted the premiere of the opera "The Nose" by D. Shostakovich. This performance has become the hallmark of the theater.
For many years this theater was the only laboratory in the country where they worked on modern opera. The operas by contemporary composers "The Brothers Karamazov", "The Overcoat", "Wedding", "Carriage" by Kholminov, "Life with an Idiot" by Schnittke, "Poor Liza" by Desyatnikov, "Count Cagliostro" by Tariverdiev and many others were performed here for the first time.
Since 2010, the theater annually, on the birthday of the founder of the theater, has been holding a retrospective show of his best performances - the Boris Pokrovsky Festival of Performances.
