Description of the attraction
The construction of the Church of the Holy Spirit, which is on Stary Vodopoye, was carried out at the expense of the townspeople and with the active financial support of the merchant K. Sobolev, and ended in 57 of the 19th century. The project of the church was carried out by the city architect I. K. Kazakov. Supervision over the construction of the temple was carried out by the dean of the Nicholas churches, Archpriest John Stanislavsky. The financial side of the enterprise was led by Gabriel Dyumin. Residents of nearby farmsteads took an active part in the construction of the church on a voluntary basis. The more wealthy made monetary donations, others mined stone for construction, burned lime, and transported the necessary building materials on their own carts. The execution of stone, plastering and carpentry work was entrusted to specialists.
With the advent of Soviet power, the Church of the Holy Spirit faced the fate of most churches. In 1936, it was closed, after which it housed military warehouses, and later, in 1962, the building was given to the department of the transformer plant and used as a sports hall. And only thirty years later, in 1992, the church resumed its activities, divine services began to be held here. The restoration was also carried out. For five years, from 1992 to 1997, the former appearance of the Church of the Holy Spirit was completely restored.
