Description of the attraction

The Parish Church of Trepolach is a partly medieval structure located in the fashionable ski resort of the same name in Carinthia. The temple was consecrated in honor of St. George. It was first mentioned in 1228 documents as a daughter church of the Hermagor parish. On May 13, 1342, a parish was created in the village of Trepolakh, and the local church received the status of a parish.

According to some archival documents, the building that we see now was built in the 15th century. The previous church was destroyed by Turkish soldiers.

In 1953, the church of St. George was enlarged by about one third on the west side. On the night of May 6, 1976, a strong earthquake occurred in the mountains closest to the town, as a result of which several local buildings were damaged, including the temple. It was restored in the same 1976. At the same time, a new clock was placed on the bell tower.

In 2003, the church roof was replaced. Another major renovation of the temple took place in 2005-2006. Restoration specialists have renewed the building's facades and interior. In the cemetery, located near the temple, wall spotlights were installed to effectively illuminate the church at night.

In the church of St. George, you can see two side altars. The left one is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and dates from around 1670. The right altar, erected in honor of Saint Joseph, was created in 1700. The main altar, consecrated in the name of the patron saint of the church - St. George, was made in 1858. The rococo pulpit appeared in the temple at the end of the 18th century.
