Description of the attraction

The Zheleznovodsk City Museum of Local Lore is a state cultural institution founded in 1983. The museum is located on Lermontov Street, 3. The museum was opened for visitors in 1988, although its first exposition, entitled "Zheleznovodsk and Zheleznovodsk and Zheleznovodsk residents during the Great Patriotic War", was already open in 1985

There was no funding from the state, so the museum was opened on a voluntary basis. But soon after its opening, it received the status of a state one. There are about 15940 exhibits in the funds of the museum, of which 12885 are items of the main fund.

Today, the museum houses a large number of exhibits related to the history of this region - from ancient times to the present. The first hall is dedicated to the discoverers of the healing springs of Zheleznovodsk - Dr. F. Haas, mining engineer A. Nezlobinsky and professor A. Nelyubin. In addition, the exhibition presents personal belongings, books, photographs of a person who played a key role in the development of the city as a health resort - Dr. S. Smirnov.

The second section of the museum called "Archeology" opens an exposition of valuable exhibits confirming that ancient tribes lived in this area - Sarmatians, Scythians, Alans. Here you can see household items, weapons, agricultural tools and much more. Of particular interest is the collection of axes, knives and other metal products of that time.

Particular attention in the Zheleznovodsk city local history museum is caused by one of the exhibits - when digging a foundation pit, ancient burials of the Koban culture were discovered, where a skeleton of a lying warrior was found in one of the burial grounds made of stone slabs. Weapons were also found near the warrior - a knife, a quiver with arrows, a spearhead. In addition, there was a ceramic bowl at the head of the warrior.
