Description of the attraction

Parnita is a mountain range 35 km north of the capital of Greece, Athens. The highest peak of the ridge is the Karabola peak, which is 1413 m above sea level and is the highest mountain in Attica. Up to a height of about 1000 m, the slopes of the ridge are mostly covered with dense pine forests (mainly Allep pine), over 1000 m are mainly Kefalinian fir (Greek fir), various shrubs and grasses. In general, about 1000 species of various plants grow here, including quite rare ones. Parnita is also home to over 40 species of mammals and about 120 species of birds. Since 1961, a significant part of the ridge has had the status of a National Park of Greece.

Parnita is famous for its fantastic natural landscapes and incredible beauty of landscapes and is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful corners of Greece. Lovers of nature and long walks in the fresh air will find here many hiking trails of various levels of difficulty; Parnita also offers a lot of opportunities for interesting pastime to fans of mountaineering.

Among the natural attractions of Parnita, it is worth noting separately the picturesque Lake Beletsi (not far from the town of Afidnes), the Guras and Keladonas gorges, as well as the Pan's cave, which got its name from the sanctuary of the ancient Greek god Pan, which was once located here, with many beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.

However, Parnita is not only nature, but also the most interesting historical and architectural monuments, among which Fili Fortress, Kleiston Monastery (13th century), Agia Kyprianou Monastery and Agia Triada Church undoubtedly deserve special attention. Lovers of gambling should definitely look into the casino "Mon Parnassus".
