Description of the attraction
The smooth slopes of the mountains of the Khibiny Territory are ideal for the development of alpine skiing and tourism on this territory, which in a very short period of time gained fame not only within our country, but also abroad. Absolutely mild winters and the duration of the snow layer on the mountains provides an opportunity to practice alpine skiing from December, of course, on the condition that the slopes are well lit, until mid-May. The vast slopes of the Khibiny, with a varied terrain, attract both inexperienced beginners and masters of alpine skiing.
Mount Kukisvumchorr is especially popular among fans of extreme skiing and freeriding. The difference in altitude on the slopes of this mountain is 520 m, the highest point is 890 m. A steep slope with a large number of natural obstacles in the form of blows, stones, cornices and the like will make you show your skiing skills. There is an opportunity to ride not only on a complex wide track, but also to drive off to the side, onto virgin snow, thereby risking causing an avalanche to descend quickly, in general avalanches in the Khibiny are quite frequent, so attention and caution in the mountains will not hurt.
The alpine skiing complex, located on the Kukisvumchorr mountain, is called by skiers "25th kilometer" - this is exactly how much you need to overcome from Kirovsk along the route to Apatity. It is rightfully considered that of all the ski centers of the Khibiny, it is here that the most extreme slopes are.
The slopes of this mountain are absolutely not suitable for beginner skiers: only self-confident riders who appreciate freshly fallen snow, the ability to ski off-piste and abrupt descents ride here. Untrained beginners may find it difficult to conquer the track, sometimes you can observe people walking down the mountain, with skis or boards in their hands. And this is not the worst option, an ambulance may also be needed. On the mountain, avalanches often occur, and deaths occur.
The off-piste skiing area starts at an altitude of 890 meters and is quite extensive, the length of the descent along the virgin lands with various obstacles in the form of cornices and pressurized air reaches about 3 km. Three drag lifts will help you to the top of the mountain. Another drag lift maintains a 200 meter long training slope located at the foot of the mountain. However, there are snowmobiles right there, offering to climb the hill or just ride. In general, this slope has a number of significant advantages. First, the service on Kukisvumchorr is getting better and better. Well-groomed slopes, well-functioning lifts. The warm cafe prepares hot meals and offers warming drinks - mulled wine, tea, coffee, etc. You can also rent a snowmobile or equipment.
Secondly, there are usually few people here. No long queues for the lifts, no large crowds on the descent. Ascended, and the mountain is at your disposal. Here you can let your extreme nature unfold, combining desires with possibilities. The site boasts impeccable conditions for the freeride competition, and since trial freeride competitions have already taken place here, you can expect them to become traditional.
