Description of the attraction
The Rovinj Municipal Museum is located on the territory of a magnificent Baroque palace, which for two centuries was the residence of the Kaliffi family. Respected members of this wealthy and very influential family settled in the Croatian town of Rovinj during the 17th-18th centuries.
The architecture of the Baroque palace perfectly demonstrates the harmonious, consistent, unified style of the period of the Venetian Republic. The building is decorated with a Venetian loggia. At the end of the Second World War, this princely residence was transformed into a museum-gallery. This transformation was initiated by local artists.
Today, the main museum of the city of Rovinj offers to get acquainted with the collection of paintings by famous world artists. The collection includes over 1,500 works of art. The works of the protagonists of the sphere of contemporary art are also exhibited here. In addition to many paintings, in the halls of this museum-gallery you will see a huge number of various sculptures, folk costumes and ship models.
Here, visitors will also see exhibits consisting of items from the times of the Roman emperors and the Middle Ages. The city museum also exhibits other collections - paintings and sculptures of the 15th-19th centuries. Be sure to pay attention to the collection, consisting of a large number of archaeological finds, allowing you to see the life and historical development of the beautiful town of Rovinj with your own eyes.
