Description of the attraction

The Museum in Podgorica since 1950 invites everyone to get acquainted with the life of the city itself and the whole of Montenegro, covering the time space from antiquity to the present day.

The exhibits of the museum are divided into four exhibitions, depending on the topic they touch on: historical, cultural-historical, archaeological and ethnographic. In the museum you can get acquainted with ancient archival documents, photographs, household items and other materials. All of them are the pride of Montenegro, as they reliably testify to the change of peoples and eras.

The exhibits in the museum include ceramics, some of which are dated to the 3rd century BC, and archaeological finds from the Illyrian and Roman periods.

Numerous icons, manuscripts, printed books of Muslims and Christians, jewelry and everyday objects - this is what the period from the 16th to the 20th century represents. All these items, exhibited in the museum, record the fact that in Montenegro there has always been an interweaving of three different religions: Orthodoxy, Islam and Catholicism.

In addition, at the ethnographic exhibition among the museum exhibits, you can see jewelry, dishes, weapons and national costumes - all these items reflect the life and culture of Montenegro in the period from the 18th to the 20th centuries. On the first floor of the museum, there are two exhibitions, which showcase the works of contemporary Montenegrin artists.
