Description of the attraction
At the end of the nineteenth century, the Kizner brothers - Yakov, Osip, Konstantin and Ivan Osipovich (German colonists) came to Saratov from the village of Kamenka, Kamyshinsky district, who at first engaged in the small trade in flour and bread. Having accumulated the initial capital, the Kizners decided to open their own business, traditional in the German settlement - meat processing and sausage making, and bought from the merchant Kotov in 1900 an unbuilt place for a sausage factory at the corner of Chasovennaya (now Chelyuskintsev) and Police (now Oktyabrskaya) streets on Mikhailo -Arkhangelskaya Square (named after the temple of the Archangel Michael located there, destroyed in 1935).
In 1902, the original factory building was built in accordance with all the canons of resettlement architecture - with solid brickwork, cornices, turrets and spiers above the dormer windows in a pseudo-Gothic style. The factory looked organically on the edge of a vast retail space. The Kizner brothers took another peasant-owner as a companion - clerk Andrey Ivanovich Glock, who in the Brothers Kizner and Glock partnership limited himself only to a monetary contribution. The building employed 12 people, not counting the sellers of the sausage shop located on the premises of the factory. By 1908, for the sale of sausages in the central part of the city, a room was rented in a house next to the hotel "Europe". The production of sausages at the factory grew continuously and by 1915 reached 2,500 poods per year, making a turnover of more than 25 thousand rubles.
After 1917, the activities of the Kizner and Glock were stopped, and the nationalized factory was named "Krasnaya Zarya", leaving a gap in history about the fate of its former owners. After World War II, the production was redesigned for the production of processed cheese, and later the inspection of the food industry of Saratov was housed in the building. By the 1990s, the building had fallen into disrepair, became unusable and abandoned.
In 2010, historical and architectural justice triumphed, and the former sausage factory found a zealous owner. A unique restoration using bricks of the nineteenth century and digging a cobblestone pavement under the asphalt brought the expected effect to the present owner: the titanic work and skill of the restorers were highly appreciated by local historians and ordinary townspeople at the Old Saratov exhibition held in a historic building.
