Description of the attraction
Moremi National Park is located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and was named after one of the tribes of Botswana. The reserve combines wetter and drier areas that create stunning natural contrasts. Moremi is the best place to watch birds in the lagoons and admire the changing landscapes of the savannah. The dense wooded area is home to rare African wild dogs and leopards.
The total size of the reserve is 5000 sq. Km, it is an amazing combination of Mopane forests and acacia forests, floodplains and lagoons. Only about 30% of the reserve lies on the mainland, the rest is small islands, expanses of water and bays. Moremi is home to nearly 500 species of birds (aquatic and forest), as well as an extensive list of other wildlife such as buffalo, giraffe, lion, cheetah, hyena, jackal, antelope.
The Okavango Valley is unique. It is the largest inland river delta in the world, formed by a channel in a tectonic depression in the central part of the Kalahari basin without drainage. All water ultimately evaporates and does not flow out into the sea or the ocean. As a result of seasonal flooding and high temperatures, the delta has tripled its size relative to its constant size. This attracts animals for kilometers around and creates one of the largest and most diverse clusters of African fauna.
There are several safari camps for tourists on the territory of the reserve. The largest and most popular is Chief's Camp, followed by Camping Mombo and Little Mombo. All of them provide services of car trips to the reserve, combined with a high level of comfort and safety of residence.
