Description of the attraction
Haarlem is located just 20 km west of Amsterdam, a small picturesque town with a turbulent centuries-old history and many interesting places that are definitely worth a visit. Special attention should be paid to the central square of the city - the famous market square Grote Markt, located in the heart of old Haarlem and is one of the favorite places for both residents of the city and its guests.
The Grote Markt is an amazing atmospheric place where life is always in full swing. Like many years ago, market days are held here (usually on Mondays and Saturdays), as well as various festivals, concerts and other cultural events. And around the perimeter, the square is surrounded by the famous sights of Haarlem - the Church of St. one of the oldest buildings in Haarlem and designed by the talented urban architect Lieven de Kay, the so-called Meat Rows, which today are home to the collection of modern paintings of the Frans Hals Museum and the Archaeological Museum of Haarlem. On the square, you will also see a monument to the famous native of Haarlem - the famous Dutch printer Laurens Janszon Koster, who, as some researchers believe, invented the method of printing using "movable" letters before Johannes Gutenberg.
After seeing the sights of the Grote Markt and buying some cute trinket as a souvenir, you can drop by one of the cozy cafes on the square, where you can eat and relax, before continuing your acquaintance with Haarlem.
