Description of the attraction
Mastichari is a picturesque port town on the northwestern coast of the Greek island of Kos. The settlement is located about 22 km west of the capital of the island of the same name and only 6 km from the airport.
Today Mastichari is one of the most popular resorts on the island of Kos and has a well-developed tourist infrastructure. Here you will find many good hotels, comfortable apartments and rooms for rent, shops, mini markets, and an abundance of excellent taverns and restaurants serving a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood dishes.
The magnificent sandy Mastichari beach is perfectly organized and is considered to be one of the best on the island. Fans of active recreation can enjoy a variety of water sports here. Mastichari is especially popular with fans of windsurfing. Beginners in this sport can use the services of a professional instructor and rent all the necessary equipment. Not far from Mastichari there is an excellent water park.
From the sights of Mastichari, one can note the ruins of an early Christian basilica with a beautiful mosaic floor (a short walk from the sea). The picturesque settlement of Antimachia with old windmills and an impressive Venetian fortress is also worth a visit. Of particular interest are also the 18th century St. Paraskeva Church, the 16th century St. Nicholas Church and the so-called "Traditional House of Antimachia" - a museum that perfectly illustrates the life and culture of the region in the 20th century.
From the port of Mastichari you can sail to the islands of Kalymnos, Pserimos and Plati, or rent a boat and take an exciting boat trip along the coast of Kos.
