Description of the attraction

Church of Alexander Nevsky, which is located on the street. Academician Pavlov, is one of the attractions of the city of Kharkov. The Russian Orthodox Church was named after the holy prince - Alexander Nevsky.

The first stone church was built at the Saburova dacha in 1830. At the very beginning it was a simple small church, which by the end of the 19th century. could not accommodate all the parishioners.

In 1900, the governor of the city of Kharkov sent a petition to St. Petersburg to build a new church, which he was immediately denied. But in 1904, after a second appeal, money was still allocated from the treasury for the construction of the temple. The construction was supervised by the Kharkiv architect M. Lovtsov, according to his own project, which he made himself.

In 1907, the construction, finishing work, as well as the painting of the temple were completed. After that, the temple was consecrated by the Most Reverend Arseny, Archbishop of Kharkov, in the name of St. bl. book Alexander Nevsky. The newly created church at Saburova's dacha, according to Vladyka Arseny, ranked first among all the churches in the city. The church contained valuable icons, a one-tier carved iconostasis, in which the icons were painted on zinc, a lot of stucco molding, and a silver tabernacle decorated with enamel towered on the throne.

In 1920, the Soviet government closed the church, after which it was used for various services. At the end of 1990, the church began its activities again. Restoration robots were carried out in the temple for complete restoration.

In the church of Alexander Nevsky there is a miraculous icon of the Mother of God "Satisfy my sorrows", an icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, icons consecrated in Greek monasteries, as well as particles of the relics of the holy blessed Prince Alexander Nevsky, Great Martyr. Panteleimon the Healer and other saints.

There is a Sunday school, library, sewing and carpentry workshop at the temple, pilgrimage trips and holidays for children are also held.
