Description of the attraction

This beautiful waterfall is located near the village of Grand Fond, which is located in St. David County. The village itself is of little interest; only those who want to see the wonderful waterfall of Dernier visit it. The village is home to residents of the coastal village of Rosalie, and their descendants. Rosalie used to be on the seashore, but the British carried her to the mountains, where the Grand Foundation is now located. On the site of the former village, only the Anglican stone church remained, which now houses a center for the training of missionaries and priests.

On the outskirts of the town you will see a sign for Dernier. In Dominica, waterfalls are found at every step, and only the most beautiful and unusual waterfalls have names and even more signs. The road from the village to the waterfall is very steep - at first the trail goes up, and then goes sharply down, the height difference is more than 300 meters. The road is well maintained and your journey will not take more than 30 minutes.

Dernier is not the deepest and largest waterfall in Dominica, but it has a very remarkable location. It is located in a rocky, gently sloping rocky cave, similar to a pit, overgrown with dense thickets. When you go down to the waterfall, you get the feeling that you are in an unknown underworld. From above it is covered with dense crowns of trees, like a dome, through which the sun's rays cannot break through. This cool and quiet place is not marked on most of the island's maps. The best time to walk to Dernier is early morning.
